Anadolu Fortress (Anadolu Hisarı)
It was constructed with the order of Yıldırım Bayezıd in 1393, during one of the sieges of Istanbul. It is opposite to the Rumeli Hisarı. In the previous period there was a Christian church at the same place. Its original name was Güzelce Hisar. It was very close to the shore when it was built, but this distance increased due to the construction activities which took place İn the following years.
Around the castle, there are many villas constructed for the significant pashas and administrators of the Ottoman Empire in the 18th and 19th century.
Moving from the castle toward Beykoz, there are many interesting villas. These are: the Bahriyeli Sedat Bey Villa, the Zarif Mustafa Pasha Villa, constructed in the 18th century: the Amcazade Villa, constructed in the 17th century; the Hekimbaşı Salih Efendi Villa, the Ferruh Efendi Villa, constructed in the 19lil century; the Yağcı Şefik Bey Villa, constructed in 1905 and the Hasan Pasha Villa, respectively. The last one is the oldest of these villas. This district is renowned with The Kanlıca yogurt which is sold in a cafe near the Kanlıca Pier. It is very delicious with powder sugar.
After this district of the Bosphorus, there are generally new settlement areas and at the end the fishermen villages in which fresh fish and sea products are sold.
